I'm going to be a pessimist and say the current system does not have the ability to fix the problem. Even the people who are interested in fixing the problems aren't able because there are too many people in place who don't want to be responsible for change.

I only help those who are willing to help themselves. I don't waste my time on people who have given up on themselves or people who don't want to make the effort to do it themselves. I'll help you support yourself but I'm not going to be your support. I'll go to the ends of the earth to make things happen for people that are putting in the effort.

Too many people don't want to put in the effort. They want everything, they want it now, and they don't want to be concerned with the bill. It is a rich/poor thing, it is a whole society thing. We are in the process of turning ourselves into a third world nation. We are doing it willingly.

Well...I'll miss the board tomorrow. riding the Harley with wife and friends and then going to the FSU baseball game with my son at 4:00. Life is very good.

Yesterday was a perfect day. We rode for about four hours, had lunch in Cairo, Georgia with good ole Georgia homecooking (blackeyed peas, green beans, fried green tomatoes, fried chicken, and apple pie alamode (for those who can eat that...I substituted and had carrot salad).

Then to the ball park with my son. It was a balmy late afternoon..sunny with blue skies in the 70's. As we sat discussing the effect of the new bats on game strategy, I thought..."man, this is too perfect. I wonder if I will have to pay for this. Every dog has his day and every puppy has to pay. Then I laughed and said...bill me later".

donovan...from what I've gathered, it looks like the basics of pitching and defense will come forward with power hitting stepping back. I saw a lot of diving for balls that made it through the infield, more taking off and trying to stretch for an extra base on a hit rather than awaiting the big hit to bring you in. The Noles were moving fielders one way and than pulling counter to their movement. About three extra base hits came from smokers just inside the third base line rolling into the corner of the field.

Return to 60's and 70's baseball. Pitching and defense rules. Hustle is the name of the game on offense. That is the game I like.

BB and Spence...I see this as a good move. More finesse and less slugging....makes for a better game on the field and in the stands.

Donovan...like your sig. I had Duke's card and he was one of my favorites....

Never did one city ever have three center fielders playing at once like Duke Snider, Willie Mays, and Mickey Mantle....Although I was a Yankee fan as a boy, I loved them all.

I am with you. As a kid on the West Coast where we had PCL ball...which was great minor league baseball..so many stories...I was Dodger's fan, but every kid was either a Yankee or Dodger fan. And you are right, those three were like a banana split with all the toppings, ever so good and never enough. I am glad for the memories.

We had minor league as well in the south..no team yet in Atlanta and the nearest team was probably either St. Louis or Washington.

The Pensacola Dons (later the Angels) were our team and they played in the Alabama-Florida league.. I sold cokes in the stands for extra money and to watch the games free.

LOL...I just looked them up and had to laugh at what the page relates.....chilhood memories are gilded for sure.

The Angels home field was Admiral Mason Park, a 2,000 seat stadium located on 9th Avenue at the edge of Pensacola Bay (what is now the corner of 9th and Bayfront Parkway). The stadium was actually a miserable place to watch baseball. A sewage treatment plant was located directly across the street which meant a westerly breeze could choke even the most loyal fan. The lone parking lot was small and the dusky, humid summer evenings mixed with a large body of water brought mosquitoes. Admiral Mason Park was nicknamed "Stinko Stadium."

The team owners were Joe Pannacione and Bennie Barberi, with Doc McCormick the General Manager and J. C. Dunn the manager. The Angels were preceded by the Dons (1957-1959), and would later be renamed the Senators (1961-1962).
