The name; notre dame, brings in lots of money, regardless of the event (sports or otherwise).

The ACC has long been in contention with the Big East over basketball rights.
When Miami joined the Big East, football became combatant, too.

The ACC at some point, figured, the best way to deal with the Big East, was to collapse the conference.

The first step, was to go after the Football big dogs . . . Step two, with the loss of big football revenue, go after the teams who are feeling less than secure in the conference, by hitting them where it counts, basketball.

(remember, after the 2011 post season, committee officials from the ACC & Big 12 gathered in an undisclosed meeting) (shortly there after, the Big 12 went after West Virginia) (now, the ACC has poached Pitt, Louisville, Syracuse, as well as the notre dame tie in)

This was a coup-de-grace, if you will . . .

I get all the media worship ND gets; but, their performance just hasn't matched up in a decade. I will be quite interested when they play the 1/2 league schedule each year in the ACC and get whipped regularly. They have liked to cherry pick games to pad their schedule and build up to a few tough games. However, their bowl performaces show where they actually are at the moment.

When, in the 2014 season, UL gets in the ACC I think we will be fine in basketball and it may take some adjustments in football. We'll see what Charlie Strong has built and how stable it is in the ACC football. I would not be surprised, if in a few years, we need to expand the stadium again - football has become more and more important here. We are learning you can be good in both major sports (as well as many minor ones) if you try hard enough.

And, quite frankly, ESPNs behind the scenes skullduggery in the demise of the BE makes me like them even less than I did before. Too bad the BE didn't sue them.

Perhaps some interesting times ahead, Swamp Daddy
