Weird Feeling

Postby Eric » Thu Nov 14, 2013 1:39 pm

Every now and then over the course of a season, I get these weird, irrational gut feelings about an upset or two. Now I definitely can't attest to their accuracy, but my gut is telling me that Alabama is going to come out completely flat in Starkville. Starkville is a tough place to play, but Mississippi State hasn't done anything this year. I think they're a little better than their record indicates and you never know with all of those dang cowbells.

My brain is going to override my gut here and say Alabama 45-10. But I'm nervous

We can only hope. Some teams, even though they have an off day, can play for four quarters and never seem to give up a lick. That is why is you are going to beat the Alabama's Oregon's Northern Illinois, etc..you have get a bunch of points up front and just hope there is enough when these teams play like it was the first quarter. That Ball State NIU game was like that. Sometimes teams like the ones mentioned and FSU OSU, even Baylor and past years Boise, Texas and others never got tested in the latter quarters when the score was such they were subbing in players from the Sweet Bye and Bye Rest Home. But even then they ran out of time before Mr. Billybud and I got called in for service.

I think that Alabama will come out flat in one of the remaining games, but I think they get it together and finish strong. These guys have been playing championship football for a while now and they know what it takes to win. Now I could see a team like Ohio State or Baylor and to a lesser extent even Florida State not be able to recover in a four quarter games, but Alabama has been through the wars for several years now. I think someone will have to take it to them for 4 quarters and take the win from them. And I don't see that team on their schedule right now. People think Auburn has a shot and it's a rivalry game so there is no intimidation there, but I think Bama will pound them on the ground and eat their defense away until they are just plain whipped at the end.

Auburn is good enough to beat Bama....Will they? Probably not.

Auburn can run the ball and Bama is built to stop the run.

Just don't think there is a running game, as good a Auburn seems to be, that will endure all four quarters with Alabama. LSU, made it two. I think the only real threat this year to Alabama would be FSU and Oregon. Oregon will not, nor do the deserve, get the chance. FSU will, if they can make it pass Idaho.

I agree with Florida State. Oregon has the offense, but they don't seem to have the defense I thought they did. The team that beats Alabama needs to be able to strike quick, but they also have to have a lock down defense, both backfield and line to put pressure on McCarrron and force him to be uncomfortable. I haven't seen Baylor enough to form a good opinion of them. Florida State looks to be capable. McCarron would eat the middle of Ohio State's defense alive. I think he would do the same with Oregon and they would also run the ball on the Ducks. I think Bama Stanford would be interesting, but we won't see that game to find out. I do think that Alabama is the best team in the nation right now. I don't think they are there because they won last year. Not now anyway. They look like the best team to me. Someone, is going to have to take the game from them to win and that is going to be a tall order.

So it's 3-0 Bama late in the 2nd. Saban must be up to more witchcraft  . MSU drives all the way to the one yard line with a chance at a fresh set of downs, and stupidly decides to throw the ball out of the shotgun. Ineligible man downfield. And then after a failed third down attempt, a missed 23 yard field goal. And now they just dropped an INT. If Mississippi State would just mildly do something right today, they would have the lead right now.

I also thought Prescott would be healthy for this game, but not having him is a huge detriment to their offense.

It's going to be very hard for SC not to remove the interim from interim coach.

I like Orgeron and I like the fire he has put back into the program. Never thought I'd find myself actually rooting for USC but I like the coach. Definitely not a win an interim coach should be able to pull off and remain an interim.

I think he got a raw deal at Ole Miss, and his recruits gave Nutt in his first year success at Ole Miss. I feel much the same as you, concerning USC.

And one week later, Stanford is back in the pac-12 Championship.

Spence, you're right . . . Oregon is not what they pretended to be; and Congrats to Arizona for a dominating win, over a formidable opponent.
