As I mentioned in the Gus to UCF thread ...
Miami's new hire at LB's Coach, Travis Williams [who's also an excellent recruiter], was sniped right out from under us by Malzahn to be the Knights next DC.
Miami respond by raiding Jimbo's staff at A&M, by hiring Ishmael Aristide as OLB Coach.
Aristide has been a Defensive Analyst for the Aggies over the last two seasons. And according to 24/7 Sports, he's been an integral part in building up A&M's recruiting classes, by developing solid relationships with prospects. [helping them land the ranked #6 2020 & #7th 2021classes] He also has strong South Florida ties.
Not too shabby on Diaz's part, I gotta say.

They can say what they want about player development and stuff but it is all about recruiting.

Absolutely ...
That, and recruiting evaluation.
Many times, a staff will focus so much on the # of Stars next to a kid's name, and not whether his skillset fits the scheme.
Larry Coker was certainly guilty of that. Go after the "Best Player" available. But not the best player for the team.
There's a reason why Leach could beat 5 Star Defensive Backs, with 3 Star Receivers. Partly play scheme, mostly players who are plug and play, ready to go.
Miami had issues with that, this past season. Rhett Lashlee had play designs where the receivers were open space running free. However, Dee Wiggins & Mark Pope, collectively, had the most drops of any receiver duo in the ACC.
I'm optimistic that this staff can turn all of that around.

Stars ratings matter solely because it tells you if 10 or 12 top rated teams have offered a guy he is probably pretty good. The recuiting services us the offers to rate kids. it isn't the other way around. That is why guys like JJ Watt went largely unnoticed and then people were like " where did this kid come from" .
