Week 7 Musings

Postby donovan » Sun Oct 14, 2012 9:52 am

The Oregon - BYU game was not as lopsided as the score indicated. All the articles of BYU's pummeling are just a result of last minutes efforts to tie and win the game by BYU, who intercepted some passes. If anything Mendenhalls last plays should be in question. (OSU won, in essence on a double reverse...now there is a fun play to watch, ala Boise State, but if not perfected, disaster.) Oregon State has an uphill battle but until something happens, they are to be given credit. Mannion will be back before season's end, but Vaz did a credible job.

Texas start out in the polls on historical, spelled hysterical, press prejudice. They have no defense this year and that should have not been a mystery to those that actually watch them play.

The Big East to West Conference will have a team that despite the weaker SOS's will have to be politically handled to keep out of a post season contest...but the BCS has experience in doing this and they will be up to it again this year.

South Carolina losing was the highlight of the weekend. It will keep them out of the spotlight and LSU is going to lose again, they are not that good in comparison, I don't think.

Utah is in over their head in the PAC 44 and Wittingham's record against big time teams is not that good. They were better off beating up on the kids on the playground. Plus they have now lost all their traditional rivalries so they will fad into the who cares category, as if they were not already there outside of the shadows of the everlasting hills.

Notre Dame haters had better just sit back and be ready to have their insides boil...why hating a team makes no sense.

TCU, the team I dislike most in the United States of America, can lose every week and I will be ok with that, but they seem to roll on.

Arkansas is on a winning streak. Maybe they should play Florida State in a game that lasts only a quarter and five/eights.

Speaking of Florida State, they stubbed their toe last week, but obviously they called a toe truck, because they are back where they will be the rest of the season.

Boise State, hmmm even I hardly care, but that will change.

Notre Dame - A win in the rain is still a solid win. But that video review should've gone Stanford's way. In South Bend, the visiting team will never get a call like that to go their way.

OSU vs BYU - I had to wonder about the pass interference call against BYU in the 4Q. It looked like "ticky-tack NFL pass interference". You are right Donovan as that game was close and a good game. Mike Riley is the Kirk Ferentz of the west coast; he is a good coach despite never getting the recruiting class that the top drawer of major conference teams consistently get.

Southern Miss has not won a game this year, but their games lately have been interesting to watch. Keep an eye on true frosh QB Anthony Alford. He could be as close as they could get to the second coming of Reggie Collier.

Southern Miss not winning a game is a stunner, even if somebody had expected them to take a step back. The weird thing is that they may just be a very below average team who just happened to play six games in a row where they were not favored to win (and perhaps a seventh with Marshall up next). I can't tell if they're bad or if the schedule has really gotten to them.
