Finally...ACC notices officiating

Postby billybud » Tue Oct 23, 2012 8:31 am

Last year, awful officiating crippled FSU at critical moments in close games.

Saturday's game with Miami was a repeat. FSU's defensive ends were being tackled with no calls, phantom pass interference calls against FSU on critical 3rd downs, etc.

FSU had a TD taken back on a weird offensive PI call when the defender banged into the receiver in the end zone before the ball arrived. In fact, the ACC has had three offensive PI calls all year...all three against FSU Saturday night.

The ACC has announced that the entire officiating crew will receive letters of reprimand while the Crew Chief (and referee) will be suspended for one game.

Jimbo was careful in the after game press conference...

Fisher on the offensive pass interference plays, "It's interesting… Amazing."

- On the penalty situations: "It makes it hard to coach… How do you tell your players how to play?"

- Fisher reiterated he was proud of the team for not getting flustered: "They overcame a lot of things that they weren't always in control of."

Or the part where the FSU defensive lineman threw the Miami offensive lineman to the ground. How do you get a no-call on that? That is ridiculous. It was well after the whistle and beyond the scope of play. I think I only saw two offensive pass interference calls in the moments that I watched, one I thought was a good call and one I thought was tacky. I forgot the name of the FSU receiver, but he and the corner were pretty physical for most of the game.

Eric...that throw down was a call that would have been a personal foul on both players...the FSU defensive lineman was being pushed after the whistle had blown the play dead.

He just embarrassed that O lineman with his ju jitso shoulder throw. It would have been worth a 15 yarder....But the officiating was horrible...and most against FSU or pro Miami non calls.

Interestingly...the official who was suspended (and a Team Chief) after the FSU-Miami game is a VT booster donater with VT season tickets....

Now...How can he officiate ACC games (and, at least he doesn't officiate VT games)? Any game can have an effect on your team's standings and having a guy run a crew who is a booster and season ticket holder at an ACC school is just more ACC bullcrap.

I am OK with a no call on that....or give offsetting penalties....It is always the second guy that gets the penalty...so when you see them both...a no call is OK...

Officiating is worse because of instant replay....every call the official is concerned about overturn....terrible in sports......get better officials....train them....quit beating around the bush with silliness like 47 replays and someone saying...inconclusive...or stands..or overturn....the official, if in position, which is always the key makes it in a split decision....I am good with that.

It is not like there is not money to have out of league officials for league games......fly them across the country...get crews that work together from a different region. Spence has the right take on officials..

This has become the accepted of blocking FSU's defensive ends....

Wow - is that right? I hadn't seen that. Didn't think such a thing would be allowed. Usually seems to me like we're always getting rooked, especially last Saturday against Clemson where instant replay went against us and several critical calls at that aided Clemson to victory. There was a point in the 3rd quarter when the score was still 17-10 and Logan got "sacked" while standing up and completing a pass with one player holding onto one ankle. I think it was only 2-3 plays later that a replay clearly showed a Clemson fumble and it still wasn't overturned. Those 2 calls made me want to turn the TV off as I felt like we had no chance if we had to play Clemson AND the officials. But I left it on, only to see us get screwed again when an obvious pass interference call wasn't made against Colemson moments after we were whistled for PI when the player didn't even touch the receiver, but the flag was shown by a backjudge 30 yards away.

I'm sure you remember one of the worst officiated games in college football history when we played you in the ACC Championship when Marcus Vick was the QB. Those refs were terrible for both sides as they blew like 35 whistles and caused the game to last an eternity. I was there and it was a joke - like a flag every other play. Frankly, the ACC basketball refs suck, too.

VT got hosed in the Clemson game.....officiating absolutely so incompetent that it looks like a fix is in.....and so many bad calls were against VT.

That happened last year...cost FSU the game against Clemson.

  Yes I agree, I don't know why he is going for the facemask in this situation. The tackle was just trying to cheer him up with a little hug.

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.
