Week 10 Cogitations

Postby donovan » Sun Nov 04, 2012 11:30 am

Just a few random thought about week 10 and what I saw, albeit, some were just low-lights.

Boise State losing to San Diego State…no one still cares but only a little less now.

Alabama v. LSU. Alabama was not the best team in the country yesterday, and LSU should have never been ranked as high as they are. Winning in the last 51 seconds makes for exciting football, and it was, but not for greatness. The real downer on all of this, which drives me nuts. Its I hard enough for all the sports analogies in life for most every subject, but when Sabin prepares the team using the raid on Osama Bin Laden and the Seals, can’t he find something that stops comparing a football game to war, where real people die real deaths. If you are going to use that stuff in the locker room, keep it there. Sabin may be an excellent coach, but for someone else’s children.

Notre Dame v. Pitt First of all, there is something blasphemous about Touchdown Jesus. Golson was incredible. He took charge in the fourth quarter over all the 21 other players on the field. Special teams, or the lack there of changed the course of the game. Kudos to Pitt. Exciting game to watch, but tarnished ND’s position as a real top contender, but a win is a win and not much left for them other than a defeat by USC. ND defense will not stop USC’s offense and there offense is not as good as USC’s defense.

West Virginia v TCU Of all the teams in college football, TCU is my least favorite. All you have to do is be an opposing team and play them and you may understand. I have been live to two TCU games and see the fans and the atmosphere TCU brings to the game makes you believe that Christian is not what the “C”in TCU stands for. I am on some kind of religious rant today. Other than West Virginia having no defense, this was just a classic outcoached game. Patterson made the call and the frogs hopped on it.

Oregon State v Arizona State Oregon State made a lot of mistakes. In the end they got it together. Vaz did a good job at QB and as high on Mannion as I am, he came back way to early from his injury. You can not have a six week injury and come back in two. It just doesn’t work that way. You would think even a veterinarian school would know that. Was cold and I am getting tired of being cold at football games. Anything below 60 has become cold. I am just a wimp. Reser Stadium just does not have the excitement of a lot of stadiums, mostly, I suppose because Oregon State fans have no idea what to do with a winning team.

Oregon v USC Hmm…watched it on TV before the OSU game…don’t like the Ducks…maybe the best team in the country, certainly better than Notre Dame or Auburn, who really came alive against New Mexico State….that win would be more embarrassing than any loss.

Ohio v Everybody…See Boise State above

Nice write up. I've enjoyed your last 2. We will now expect regular reports.

On Alabama and LSU, I have to think their is a collective sigh running through the halls of the SEC Presidents offices, cause an Alabama loss would have ensured that no SEC team would have been in the NC game. 8)

But I'm sure the polls/ESPN/SEC presidents could have convinced people that poll manipulation was necessary again.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

I think Oregon is better than Notre Dame and Auburn. I'm not sure a team how gives up 50 points to a team can be considered the best in the nation, though. Oregon has an outstanding offense, but they consistently show they don't care about playing defense. That is going to be a problem when/if they encounter a team with a defense.

They did . . . and it was:

Last year, when Oregon lost their opening game to LSU.

The Ducks' offense didn't really get moving until the game was too far out of hand for them to catch back up. The same thing happened to West Va twice this year. (Texas Tech/K. State)

The media hype on Oregon, is that this is by far Chip Kelly's best defense . . . whatever that is worth.
