But a nice 8 point win for the best of the WAC that year. Now, I would be impressed if they had beaten LSU, Mississippi, or Georgia that year. Or even Arkansas, Tennessee, or Florida.
2003 is a long time ago.
I like to think more about the present or at least this season. Who was that first WAC team that Bama beat this year and how could Bama be given a number one ranking for beating such a bottom feeder and at home yet? Must not have been SOS cuz that is a laugh -- just as much of a laugh as BSU's win over NMSU. But yet Bama held onto a number 1 ranking and BSU drops to 4... Thats because there is a political bias in the system.
That bias is supposedly based on SOS but "forwarding looking" SOS and anticipation rather than the actual "current" effort.
Now with that said lets just forget about the actual football games themselves and just look at the ability of the schedulers and the bankers. Why risk pre-bowl injuries - just let all the teams sit out for the season and let the SOS predetermine the bowls and just play the bowl games.
Why can't we just stop kidding ourselves about the political bias of the system. The only reason a Tennessee, LSU, Mississippi Arkansas and Florida are your mentions is because they are the politically correct elite called the SEC and they play only the most powerful teams to deserve their spots in this mindless game of polling. They would never ever "fluff" their schedule with powder puff teams like SJSU or NMSU -- after all, everybody knows those two teams are WAC bottom feeders...Yet, Alabama played them and beat them and were rewarded #1 for that great effort.
I'm not saying BS should have jumped up because of a win over the worst of the bottom dwellers -- but considering apples to apples this victory for the Broncos was decisive (with no points scored against) and AWAY while Alabama's was also decisive (with 3 points scored against them) and at HOME - very impressive for a number one ranking at the time.

Win or Lose - IT'S HOW YOU HYPE THE OUTCOME! BCS logic: When teams in the AQ conferences lose, it shows how tough those conferences are; when teams in non-AQ conferences lose, it is weakness.
