Sonny Dykes Hired by Cal

Postby Eric » Fri Dec 07, 2012 6:18 pm

A great hire by Cal in my opinion. If Dykes could find a staff that could concentrate more on the defensive side of the ball, I think he could lead one of the best programs in the country. He is basically schooled in the Texas Tech tradition offensively, and this move reinforces the Pac-12's turn towards offensive-minded coaches. I think Cal could be a program to be reckoned with in a few years. They're going to have to find a QB who is competent enough to run the offense, but it can be done.

Think of the offenses in this conference: Mike Leach, Rich Rodriguez, Todd Graham, Chip Kelly, and now Sonny Dykes. This oughta be fun 8)

Yes, but I hope they hire some defensive co-ordinators to make them complete. Teams that can score 100 points but give up 80 don't do anything for me. Ohio State put up a ton of points on Indiana ( not that uncommon) this year, but gave up nearly 50. I don't understand how people think that is exciting football. It is the reason Chip Kelly can't get over the hump at Oregon. I have nothing against an aggressive efficient offense, but offense without defense is not a fomula for success. Ask Bob Stoops and evey Oklahoma team since 2001.
